Toxic Household Cleaning Agents

Some of the most toxic chemicals are living right under your nose. They are sitting in a bucket under the sink or in the laundry room on a shelf. Cleaning agents can be very deadly to our health and our home. The fumes from most of these are the most toxic. An average home contains many different gallons of toxic chemicals. Cleaning companies do not have to list every single ingredient in their product and for them that is probably a good thing, for us not so much.

Cleaning companies are able to hide certain ingredients under “secret ingredients” because they claim that is what makes them so unique and by law they are allowed too.
When you pick up a cleaner and it has many warnings on it, do you really want to use it in your home? You are locking those cleaners away for a reason so that your child or animal doesn’t get ahold of it because if they do it can be very fatal.

  • Chlorinated phenol – this chemical is often found in your toilet bowl cleaner and has toxic fumes. This is not good for your respiratory system.
  • Diethylene glycol – this agent is found in Windex and is deadly to your nervous system.
  • Phenols – this agent is often found in Lysol spray or other disinfectants. It is also dangerous for you to breathe in the fumes.
  • Nonylphenol ethoxylate – you will generally find this agent in your everyday laundry detergent and surface cleaners. Do you really want to wear this substance or lay your food on it? This chemical is illegal in Europe.
  • Formaldehyde – this chemical is often found in things like Febreeze and Glade to freshen your room. It can also be found in your nail polish.
  • Perchloroethylene – is a chemical in stain remover. Has been found to cause kidney damage.

This list could keep going for miles. There is hundreds of chemicals out there in our everyday products that we do not realize we are breathing. We think our home is clean, but truthfully it is full of chemicals that are dangerous to our health. This is why natural products are important to use every day.
