Top 5 Allergens in your Home

Allergens are everywhere, especially in the Southeast during the spring time. With the number of trees, grasses, and flowers in the area, the number one allergen is pollen. You may be thinking that pollen is an outside allergen but it easily finds its ways into your home. Every available entry way into your home can lead to increased pollen levels. Pollen can come in around cracks in the door, through the air conditioner, and even through the mesh screens in windows.

There are a couple of steps you can take to reduce the amount of pollen in your home:

  1. Keep the doors and windows closed tight
  2. Make sure that you are changing your air conditioner filter on a regular basis
  3. Wash shoes during especially heavy pollen periods.

Cockroaches are another high allergen. Cockroaches cause lots of people to have allergies and the stuff you kill them with can also cause you to sneeze. Cockroaches are one of the nastiest bugs because they carry disease and germs, which they spread throughout your home. You may not even be aware that you have any, but you could have a few lurking in small spaces. Another way to get rid of them instead of using roach killer would be to sprinkle a little borax out. Make sure you do it were your child or dog wouldn’t get in it!

Mold spores are another top allergen. They like to grow and breed in damp places, such as your bath mat if it stays wet, or the bottom of your shower curtain. You could also have find mold down the back of your refrigerator if it sweats. Other places are under the cabinets and behind the toilets.
